Cotton Country Anglican

The sometimes rambling, sometimes insightful and sometimes pained musings of a northeast Louisiana Episcopalian (Anglican) about the upside down nature of life in the 21st Century, including what I view as the hijacking of my church by people driven by one or more secular political agendas.

Author's Clarification of Content

All commentary posted on this blog that is not directly attributed to another person or entity is the personal opinion of the blog host. Because a substantial portion of the content of this blog deals with ongoing developments within The Episcopal Church and the world wide Anglican Communion and because I am currently the Senior Warden of an Episcopal Church parish, I want to make very clear that my comments are personal in nature. Nothing that I may say on this blog is said in my capacity as senior warden, and my comments do not reflect the opinions of Grace Episcopal Church, our rector, our vestry or the members of the parish at large.

Covenants Do Matter

From the worth thinking about department:

Modern Christians must never lose sight of the message central to Christianity and the true mission of "the Church":

"I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father, but by me". John 14:6

"Enter by the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. For the gate is narrow and the way is hard, that leads to life, and those who find it are few." Matthew 7:13,14

"Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, to the close of the age." Matthew 28:19,20

More from the worth thinking about department:

A church marque provided this notable quote about Holy Scripture for the modern Christian:

We do not change The Message; The Message changes us!

Amen and Amen.

About Me

My Photo
Joe Roberts
I am a thirty-three year veteran of bar admission and thirty-seven year veteran of my confirmation as a member of the Episcopal Church. Raised a Methodist, I was first attracted to the Episcopal Church by her beautiful liturgy but later both because of the fact that a primary focus of worship in The Episcopal Church is the regular corporate reading of Holy Scripture and also that I was encouraged to think while in church rather than being required to check my brain at the Narthex gate only to retrieve it after the worship service. I am politically moderate to conservative which also describes my approach to church (I am orthodox and traditional, but strive to practice tolerance toward the honestly held beliefs of others just as I desire them to tolerate mine). I'm writing this blog principally to enable myself to work through an ongoing war within The Episcopal Church, a war that is literally about the heart and soul of the church and one that is frighteningly close to utterly destroying the church that I chose, have known and that I love deeply.

"If there were any word of God beside the Scripture, we could never be certain of God's word; and if we be uncertain of God's word, the devil might bring in among us a new word, a new doctrine, a new faith, a new church, a new god, yea himself to be a god. If the Church and the Christian faith did not stay itself upon the Word of God certain, as upon a sure and strong foundation, no man could know whether he had a right faith, and whether he were in the true Church of Christ, or in the synagogue of Satan."
