TEC Suits in Fort Worth: What about 1 Corinthians 6:1 and 7 don't they get?

Words are insufficient to describe the uncharitable, ungodly and anything but Christian behavior of The Episcopal Church (not "church" in this instance) with regard to the heavy handed actions of the so-called "Provisional Bishop", the Rt. Rev'd Edwin F. Gulick (also the Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Kentucky) in demanding the allegiance of the clergy that have joined Bishop Jack Iker in their realignment and affiliation with the Anglican Province of the Southern Cone.

What doesn't +Gulick (and for that matter the entire 815 leadership beginning with +Jefferts-Schori and her enforcement machine) understand about St. Paul's clear statements as reflected in his writing to the Corinthians?

"When one of you has a grievance against another, does he dare go to law before the unrighteous instead of the saints?" (6:1)

"To have lawsuits at all with one another is already a defeat for you. Why not rather suffer wrong? Why not rather be defrauded?" (6:7)

Of course we know the answer to the question posed above: MONEY AND PROPERTY, but nothing to do with saving souls through the Christ commanded mission for His Church: making disciples. Christ had something to say about +Gulick's misguided thinking, but then I'm sure the good bishop is not going to bother checking Scripture, but if he were so inclined, here's what he'd find:

“No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money." Matthew 6:24

"No servant can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.” Luke 16:13

Both Archbishop Gregory Veneables (Southern Cone) and Fort Worth Bishop Jack Iker have reassured clergy and parish vestries and their words are worth reading.

Shame on +Gulick. Shame on +Jefferts-Schori. Stand tall ++Venables and +Iker and walk in the way of the Lord. As the psalmist says:

"Blessed are those whose way is blameless,
who walk in the law of the Lord!

Blessed are those who keep his testimonies,

who seek him with their whole heart,

who also do no wrong,

but walk in his ways!"

Psalm 119:1-3

Lord have mercy.

God's peace. <><
